Pittsburgh, Pa. – On Wednesday, June 17, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds took on D.C. United at Highmark Stadium. Despite the 3-1 loss in extra time, the Riverhounds played an outstanding game versus the Major League Soccer team from Washington D.C. The Riverhounds game had an almost record-breaking crowd turn out with nearly 4,000 fans in attendance on Wednesday night.

D.C. United midfielder, Facundo Coria scored the first goal off of the back post and past Riverhounds goalkeeper, Calle Brown. D.C. United continued to control possession of the ball for a majority of the first half but during the 24th minute, Rob Vincent scored the Riverhounds’ only goal with a quick kick to the right side as United’s goalkeeper, Andrew Dykstra goes left.
During the 66th minute of the match, United assistant coach, Chad Ashton was ejected for protesting calls made by the referees. The ejection of United’s assistant coach satisfied the Riverhounds fans and seemed to give the players and attendees a bit of confidence to finish out the match with high hopes. The second half of the match did not turn out quite as successful for either team and the game went into extra time. Two minutes into extra time, a header off of a corner kick goal made by United defender, Kofi Opare gave United the 2-1 lead. The goal made by Nick DeLeon in the 104th minute of extra time sealed the deal and made D.C. United victorious over the Riverhounds.
D.C. United’s win over the Riverhounds has eliminated the Riverhounds from the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Riverhounds’ next game is Saturday, June 20 versus FC Montreal at 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.

The Steelers will wear their 1934 throwback uniforms for the team’s Nov. 1 contest vs. the Cincinnati Bengals. This will mark the fourth straight season Pittsburgh will wear their 1934 throwback uniforms.

The team first wore these in 2012 during the team’s 80th season in professional football. The Steelers donned their 1934 throwbacks twice that season, once versus the Washington Redskins and once versus the Baltimore Ravens. In 2013, the team wore them against the Detroit Lions, and in 2014, Pittsburgh wore them against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced they have signed shortstop Kevin Newman, who was the 19th overall selection in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Neal Huntington and Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting Joe DelliCarri.
“We are excited to bring Kevin into our organization,” said DelliCarri. “We believe Kevin’s baseball skills, athleticism and strong internal drive align well for his continual growth within our player development system and his path to playing for the Pirates at PNC Park.”
Newman was named a first-team Pac-12 selection this year after hitting .370 (84-for-227) with 19 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 36 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 55 games with the University of Arizona.
As a sophomore in 2014, he was named to the Pac-12 all-conference team and Pac-12 all-defensive team while hitting .304 in 55 games.
