The Pittsburgh Riverhounds secured a first league shutout of the USL season Saturday to defeat F.C. Montreal by 1-0 on a damp night at Highmark Stadium.

Kevin Kerr netted the deciding tally just inside the right post on 79 minutes with a beautiful left-footed finish. The score came after Rob Vincent showed nifty footwork in getting by multiple Montreal defenders before having his attempted shot blocked. Kerr seized on the rebound to place his effort past visiting goalkeeper Max Crepeau.

MLS in Pittsburgh?

published in category: Riverhounds on Friday, June 19th, 2015 – 12:32 pm

Pittsburgh can support an MLS team, Terrelle Pryor moving to wideout, Malkin and the Pens.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds return to league business tomorrow with a vital USL Eastern Conference clash against F.C. Montreal at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Hounds remain inside the playoff positions with a 4-4-4 record (16 points) despite failing to win either of the two previous league games this month. Saint Louis F.C. scored a late equalizer at Highmark Stadium on June 6 to nick a 1-1 tie before Charlotte Independence toppled Mark Steffens’ side last Saturday by 2-1.

F.C. Montreal (1-8-2, five points) travels south of the border on a 5-game winless streak and with the poorest offensive record in the USL. The Canadians prop up the Eastern Conference although results have not been as bad as a cursory glance at the standings suggests.

Philippe Eullaffroy’s young team held the Richmond Kickers to a scoreless tie in Virginia last weekend. They handed the Charleston Battery its only loss of the year on May 14 and have twice been edged by a single goal by the league leading Rochester Rhinos.
