PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran free agent offensive tackle Guy Whimper and undrafted rookie free agent linebacker Terence Garvin to contracts, the team announced today.
Whimper was originally drafted in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the New York Giants out of East Carolina. He played for the Giants from 2006-09 and was a member of their Super Bowl XLII Championship team. From 2010-12, Whimper played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Whimper has played in 67 career games with 22 starts in the regular season and has seen action in four career postseason contests.
Garvin went undrafted out of West Virginia University in 2013 and attended the Steelers’ rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis. He played in 47 career games at West Virginia, registering 235 tackles, 10.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He also intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, to go along with 11 passes defensed.
To make room on the roster, the team released rookie center Ivory Wade and rookie defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White.
