The Steelers signed defensive end Ricardo Mathews to a one-year contract, the team announced today. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Mathews, an unrestricted free agent, is entering his seventh NFL season in 2016. Mathews was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round (238th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft and remained with the Colts through 2013. Most recently, he spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the San Diego Chargers.

In 2015, Mathews played in all 16 regular-season games (seven starts) for the Chargers, finishing the season with a career best 22 tackles.

In six NFL seasons, Mathews has appeared in 80 games (15 starts) and recorded 94 tackles, 4.0 sacks, four pass breakups and forced two fumbles. He’s played in four postseason contests as well.
