The Robert Morris University men’s hockey team won its’ second straight Atlantic Hockey conference regular season championship, securing two league points to take the title with a 6-3 victory over Canisius Friday night.
Fitting that on a night the Robert Morris won the regular season crown, the pair of Colonials at the top of the conference scoring charts posted three point nights. Greg Gibson extended his Atlantic Hockey goals lead with two goals and an assist, bringing his season goals total to 25 and his points total to 44, second in the conference only to Zac Lynch. Gibson is third in the nation in goal-scoring and sixth in the national point race.
Lynch netted a goal and two assists in the first two periods of play, bringing his season total to 46 points, tied for fourth in NCAA hockey with Chicago Blackhawks draft pick, Michigan forward Tyler Motte. Lynch is 8 points back of the national goals lead, held by Motte’s Michigan teammate Kyle Connor, a Winnipeg Jets first round pick. Lynch leads the conference in scoring and will head into Satuday’s senior night with 147 points, just three points shy of tyingCody Wydo ’15 for the all-time scoring record at Robert Morris.
