The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are pleased to announce the club’s regular season schedule for the 2015 USL PRO season.
Harrisburg City Islanders will visit Highmark Stadium on March 28 to provide the opposition in Mark Steffens’ first competitive game as head coach of the Hounds.
The clash is one of four Keystone Derby games throughout the year. The Riverhounds travel to Pennsylvania’s state capital on Sept. 19 to wrap up the 28-game regular season.
Pittsburgh faces back-to-back games against new franchises early on with a trip to Saint Louis F.C. on April 11 followed by a home game against Louisville City F.C. on April 19.
Charlotte Independence is the third new franchise allocated to the USL’s Eastern Conference this year. Pittsburgh’s first meeting with the team will take place in North Carolina on June 13.
The New York Red Bulls’ new USL PRO team comes to Highmark Stadium on July 4. The clash is one of seven scheduled against the reserve rosters of Major League Soccer franchises. Pittsburgh faces a home and away series against the Red Bulls, F.C. Montreal and Toronto F.C. II with a second trip to Ontario rounding out the intra-league ties.
The USL is entering its fifth year with a new format – 24 teams split equally into Eastern and Western Conferences.
Two games will kick off the season on March 21 with 2014 champion Sacramento Republic beginning its title defense at Seattle Sounders F.C. 2 and the Charleston Battery hosting Toronto F.C.’s second team.
