The University of Pittsburgh officially transitions back to the script logo Wednesday, May 18 with the #PittScript event in the ticket office lobby of Petersen Events Center. Pitt will host an invitation-only VIP event from 5-6:15 p.m. followed by a public fashion show with current student-athletes donning new uniforms for the 2016-17 campaign.

“We are excited to make the full transition back to the script logo,” said athletic director Scott Barnes. “Not only will this move help unify our branding efforts, it also gives us an opportunity to celebrate the amazing history of Pitt Athletics. Wednesday’s event will give Panther fans an opportunity to see some impressive Pitt apparel as well as some of the other exciting improvements we currently have underway.”

A new line of Pitt script merchandise will also be on display with the team store open to the public throughout the event. There will be a raffle and silent auction where people in attendance will have the opportunity get exclusive prize packs and Pitt script merchandise.

The Pitt script logo, originally commissioned and selected by football coach Johnny Majors in 1973, was phased out in 1996. It reappeared in 2014 on Pitt’s football helmets and is now Pitt’s primary logo as the athletic department looks to make its mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
