Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Williams totaled 171 yards (143 rushing and 28 receiving) to go along with two rushing touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s Week 1 victory over the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. His 143 rushing yards were the second-most in a season opener in Steelers history (Willie Parker, 161 yards, 9/11/2005 vs. Tennessee).
Also in that contest, Williams became the fifth active player with at least 7,500 rushing yards, at least 2,000 receiving yards and at least 60 total touchdowns in a career.
This marks Williams’ first time winning AFC Player of the Week honors. He was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 14 performance in 2008.
