Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has been named to the 2014 Swedish Olympic Team. Landeskog will be part of a very strong Swedish team, who are considered contenders to medal.
At the age of 21, Landeskog is appearing in his first Olympics. He is the youngest member of the Swedish team. Although this is his first Olympics, this is not his first stint in International play.
During 2011, Landeskog was named as an alternate captain on the IIHF World Junior Championship team, where he only played one game before sustaining a high ankle sprain. Serving as an alternate captain for a second time during the 2012 IIHF World Championship in Stockholm and Helsinki, he played in all 10 games, putting up three goals and one assist for an overall +4.
Drafted second overall in the 2011 Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche, Landeskog is now in his second season serving as the Avalanche captain. When he was named captain on September 4, 2012 that made him the youngest captain in NHL history. He was 11 days younger than current Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby.
Coming up on the Olympic break, Landeskog has 17 goals and 29 assists totaling 46 points. He has hopes of helping the Swedish team bring home a medal.
